CHERYLHEE: August 2014

3rd August 2014:
Made our way to krabi!

It was quite an impromptu trip as I had some free days from work!

Afternoon 2pm flight, so mr Xing sent us to the airport.

Whilst we were waiting for a taxi with our luggages.

Headed to terminal 2 and had Ashton's for lunch.

Once in the departure hall, there was this tree where pictures would be captured and flashed on the screen. Gimmicks of course. But we were bored!

Who could miss out a selfie on the plane.

Upon arrival, we took a taxi to our hotel. It was roughly 500-600 baht (20-30sgd) from the airport to the hotel.

Our hotel was located directly in the heart of aonang town and just across a beach.

Waiting for our room to be ready. I would say this is a very convenient hotel. 2 mins walk from restaurants, bars, mini marts, and some street shopping. Things are cheaper than in Singapore, but of course, these are all tourist places, I would probably think that it is above normal prices.

We were served with a refreshing violet-pinkish dragonfruit juice as a welcome drink.

Each room is a standalone on it's own, like a chalet. Exteriors aren't the newest nor the cleanest, but the interior is totally different.

I would definitely come back here to stay on my next visit!

Walking out to a western Thai restaurant to eat our first Thai meal of the day.

Since it was day 1, we didn't do much and only did some mini shopping in the area. We then took a Tuk Tuk to tend weekend night market.

There wasn't anything interesting to purchase, so all we had to indulge in were the street food. And street food wasn't mummy's cup of tea. Haha.

Tried out the coconut ice cream! A definite must when visiting Thailand.

We also bought this quail egg balls.

Hot and fresh!

Not sure what it's called, but it's some crispy pancake with coconut and sour cream with some flavouring. I didn't quite fancy it though. The coconut flavoured one tasted a little weird.

Lastly, some sweetness to melt in the mouth! It's Thailand cotton candy!

We had to wrap this green thin sugar in some skin(something like popiah skin) and eat it together with the skin. This was the best. Haha

After which, we popped by this restaurant and bar called longhorn saloon.

THIS IS A MUST VISIT! The band was friendly and engaging, they take requests, and though not the best voice but they were good. Drinks were affordable too.

They play more rock and roll songs which probably is the best genre when you're pairing it with a beer in one hand. It isn't a rowdy bar and the waitresses were friendly as well.

4th August 2014:

Day 2 was an early start as we had arranged and bought a tour package to travel out to the islands for our island hopping tour.

I used to have the misconception that krabi's beaches were crystal clear, but apprently not. We definitely must travel by boat to the islands to see the clear waters. This is the same for phuket.

We had to wait for the tour mini bus to pick us at 830am, to the jetty/ferry terminal where we would be split up into our boats for the tour. Each boat would roughly have about 30-40 passengers.

Tip: TAKE YOUR TIME TO BOOK YIUR TOUR. Do not be in a hurry to book the first tour agent you see. There are tonnes of them, and each of them might quote different pricing. There are also many types of island tours. But most of them are the same as there are only the few larger tour companies which the agents would normally promote. We booked our tour roughly for 800-1000baht per pax (if I do not remember wrongly)

And just not far out, the water colors start to have a change.

Tip 1: if you have motion sickness, take the speedboat and not the long tail. Sit towards the back of the speed boat as the weight is towards the back and the ride is not as bumpy at all. It is also fast, and so you wouldn't feel that much of the water current. The long tail is the total opposite.

Tip 2: Do not eat the motion sickness pill as you will feel super drowsy for the most of the journey and would miss out on all the beautiful scenery.

Tip 3: If you're adventurous enough, sit at the front of the boat, outside, at the tip. That's the most bumpy part of the boat and totally not for the faint hearted. It is the lightest part of the boat and hits the current the strongest, and the drops are the hardest. And IT IS THE BEST PART OF THE BOAT! To get the best effect, hope that it rains during your boat ride. But please, cover up if it rains. The rain drops hit hard on your skin. (Haha)

As the tours normally last till 4pm (arriving back at hotel, and relatively am quite punctual), lunch was provided by the tour. There was a mass buffet for the many other tour groups as well. Food wasn't as bad as expected. I would say it is not bad at all for tour package food.

We brought our own bread to feed the fishes! Bread is a must buy. They do not sell it on the boats in krabi tours. (But they do for phuket tours- at least for mine) that's why you can see a group surrounding our "magician". Making fishes appear out of no where, literally. Just like magic, the fishes appear!

Tip: buy about 2 loaves of bread, and get an empty water bottle. Stuff the bread into the bottle, this helps keep the bread from crumbling immediately upon contact with water. And the bread wouldn't dissolve and dissappear, it would be contained within the water bottle.
